Located in the county of Cumbria, in England's north west, the city of Carlisle is home to a population of 100,739 [1] people. Well known for its historical significance and landmarks such as Carlisle Castle and Hadrian's Wall, Carlisle is a thriving city and a significant trade centre with a bustling atmosphere. The Carlisle rental market is generally healthy, although statistics show that owner occupied housing is more popular at 67.91 per cent, compared with rental at 21.93 per cent [5] . Semi-detached and terrace houses make up the majority of housing types in Carlisle at 73.25 per cent [6] .

The inner city location of Denton Holme, known for its Victorian style terraces, is popular with first home buyers and young professionals, while the east of the city centre is considered more up market. Once encompassing a fair portion of slum dwellings, the south of the city has been cleaned up and features many Victorian terraces.
