Located on Englandâ~@~Ys south coast, Southampton is a cosmopolitan city steeped in maritime history. With a population of almost 230, 000 [1] and a student population of close to 40,000 [2] , the city is a vibrant cultural hub complete with highly sought after water views. Property prices are lower than average compared to other south coast locations. Unemployment is extremely low at 1.9 per cent [3] .

Winter highs average at 8ðC and winter lows average at 1.5ðC [4] . Temperatures are favourable, but the cityâ~@~Ys coastal location makes it more vulnerable to floods.

Southampton residents have access to a sophisticated public transport system consisting of trains and buses. The railway network offers direct routes to locations including Portsmouth and London. The predominant form of local travel is via the cityâ~@~Ys bus service. Southampton Airport is located four miles north of the city centre [5] .

Southampton Property Market

Southampton is popular with a variety of demographics, particularly young families, professionals and students. Northern areas near the University of Southampton are popular with students and feature an abundance of share accommodation. Due to the number of resident students, the rental market in Southampton is thriving.

Totton and Upper Shirley to the west are a favourite with families and are generally good value, as well as the more up market Chilworth just outside Southampton. For water views the docks are an ideal location. The Ocean Village development amongst others is growing in popularity due to its coastal location. For smaller properties, the district of Shirley has a number of two bedroom Victorian style terraces, while the city centre is brimming with flats.
