Do you have to have planing for a garden shed?

We had the same question for a garden studio (basically a shed) for our garden.
You definitely don't need planning as a shed is considered an outbuilding which is a permitted development. There are some conditions about size, height, usage and proximity to boundaries and so on.
I don't have all the details any more as they were in a now deleted email but I got the chapter and verse from a free on-line solicitor q and a here

No. As long as it is not more than 6ft tall.
