Stamp Duty - changes in 2012

I have heard that the stamp duty holiday will end next year (2012), when exactly will this be and what effect will it have on any property purchase I make?

  • The first time buyer's £250,000 SDLT threshold applies from 25 March 2010 up to 24 March 2012 inclusive, after which time a purchase between £125,000 and £250,000 will attract a tax if 1%. So first time buyers and buy to let investors may wish to consider this when planning the timing of their purchase. As it is now common for a transaction to take approaching 100 days to exchange and complete those thinking of buying should make their move and start searching now.
