How much would having a lift, from my living room through the ceiling to the bedroom above devalue my home?

I have a three bedroom terraced house, which has a lift in the living room, which goes up through the ceiling to the medium sized bedroom above. Obviously most people would not want this unsightly thing in their home and would have to have it removed. By how much would this devalue my home?

  • Gosh this is unusual! I would find it rather novel to have a lift but of course most people wouldn't want it, or at least it would be more difficult to find a buyer who would love a lift in their living room up to bedroom. I couldn't say how much it would de-value the property, but I would image it would be in the thousands of pounds. The best thing to do is get quotes for removing it and then either have the work done or have the quotes handy for potential purchasers when the time comes.
