Where to live in Essex?
We are relocating to Essex and would like to know where there are good schools and reasonably priced housing with a commute to Canary Wharf of about under 1hr 15Mins. Thanks.

We relocated from London to Great Dunmow in Essex after looking all around Essex. It has great road links into London via the M11, there is also a station at Stansted and Bishops Stortford direct to Liverpool St in under an hour. My husband commuted to Hackney by car in under an hour. The area has excellent schools, both primary and high schools. We have a lovely high street with all the shops you need on a daily basis and larger shopping centres at Braintree, 10 mins away and Bishops Stortford, 15 mins away then Chelmsford in 20 mins. We have a sports centre with pool and lots of green spaces, a large recreation ground with skate park and play park and another park with tennis courts and a duck pond. It is a historic town with lots of beautiful surrounding villages. The houses are reasonably priced compared to other areas of Essex, depends how far out you want to go. But out of all of Essex we looked at this was the one that had the best feel to it and I have been proved right. I wouldn't move away now. Hope this helps!

I suggest Upminster Hornchurch Gidea Park or Brentood. Fares are quite a lot more from Brentwood as it is just past the London zones. Very easy to get to Canary Wharf (I commute to there myself from Gidea Park station (I live that side of Hornchurch)... 20 mins on National Anglia train to Stratford then 12 mins on DLR or Jubilee to Canary Wharf - about 10 mins more from Brentwood. Upminster you get the C2C to Limehouse (20 mins again) then 10 mins DLR to Canary Wharf. Travel would be zones 2-6 on Oyster. Good schools around all these places both primary and secondary. Another place to consider is Billericay. You can get a fast train to Stratford from there too - more countrysisde and less built up.
