  • I live in Callington and live in a fairly newly built estate called The Village Collection which is a mixture of private and some housing association housing. I find the people in my estate to be friendly, mainly retired couples and families. There is no noise at night, crime is very low, I've seen the police on my estate once in the last two years. There are rougher parts of Callington like anywhere. There is a council area close to the Community College which has a bad reputation, I've never lived there so can't comment but have driven through and have friends living there and it seems to be much better than the council areas of the nearby city of Plymouth. The town centre looks a little old and worn and is small but has several takeaways, a chemist, pet shop, convenience stores and there is a large Co-op supermarket. Parking in the town centre is only 40p for 1 hour. A lot of people say the town centre has youngsters driving cars fasts etc at night but I have not seen this yet and the police station is right at the end of the town centre anyway. Just outside the town centre is a Tesco supermarket and fuel station, it's never particularly busy like in Plymouth which is bliss. If you walk around Callington the views are beautiful. There aren't many jobs locally, many commute to Plymouth and this can be tricky when there is cold weather as snow and ice can affect Callington as it is on higher ground. Commuting from Callington is easy in general though if looking for work in nearby towns, less than 10 miles to Liskeard, 15 miles to Plymouth, 10 miles to Tavistock and the same to Launceston. The crime rates for Callington in general are very low, particularly burgarly and theft. On my estate, kids leave bikes out overnight and they are never stolen, I am never concerned about doors or windows being open. There is a very strong sense of community, I always have leaflets through the door about community events etc.
