Leasehold to freehold

I am interested in buying a property for cash but it is leasehold and that is putting me off, can I change this to freehold so that I own the property? If I can, is it expensive?

  • Leasehold can be as good as freehold it depends on the length of the lease and if the lease is renewable. You can't change to freehold unless the owner of the freehold wants to sell and then it can be complicated if it is in a block of flats

  • Is it a flat or a house? If it is a flat, how many years are left on the lease?
