Try Woodford Green, just on border of London but also right next to Epping forest. Great transport links to LOndon in 20mins, good schools and some lovely properties

Ingatestone and Shenfield, if you have a reasonable budget, have both. 25 mins from Liverpool Street. Leigh is lovely and about 45 minutes out. Even pretty places up as far as Coggeshall and Halstead are 'London accessible' really and offer great value. Now that the second runway at Stansted has been killed off, look at areas around there as they are bound to increase in value soon but are also close to the Stansted/London direct line.
