I would suggest that you look at the local authorities’ website to see what the crime statistics etc for this area are, this will also give you a guide to house prices and movement of the market within the area. You can also look at the local tourist board website which gives you an up to date overview of the area.

It depends on where in the town you're looking. There are some nice parts, some less nice parts and then there's ToyTown - I'll leave you to guess where that is. Spend some time looking round, try using google street-view for anonymous nosing about....
