What's it like to live in Colchester?

What kind of people live around here? Is there much greenery in the area?

  • Fantastic, Colchester has so much to offer, yes there is greenery - beautiful walks and glorious scenery, nearby the coast and a lot to offer the boating community, an historic town and the people are very friendly. I would recommend it to anyone.

  • The surrounding countryside is lovely, and the sea is very close-by. But you need to be careful about which part of town you choose; it has one of England's biggest sink estates. It's a historic, generally quiet town, close enough to London and Norwich, but hit hard by the recession and long-term economic decline. The town has some lovely corners, and a river walk, but it's far from pleasant at night (and town centre best avoided at weekend nights, unless you're a noisy drunk up for a fight).
