What are your thoughts on the new budget regarding first time buyers?

  • In the south of england you can still get good size property up to £250,000 as a FTB. I don't think it changes a great deal, as I can remember when we bought our first house for £24,500 in 1982/3 it was still a struggle. Instead of paying stamp duty, first time buyers will try and buy a larger house for their budget - so a good 'vote-pleaser' and head-line grabber, but little real substance...

  • I think it is a bit pointless to be honest. The first time buyers will need to purchase from someone who WILL need to pay stamp duty if they are moving at all, so this may lead to some families staying put and leaving less stock on the market for first time buyers!!!
