Is there much greenery in the area? What are the local amenities like?

  • The town of Goole itself is quite industrial with a busy port area, but you are only 10 minutes drive from open countryside with various nature reserves (Blacktoft Sands for one). The local amenities are good with rail links to Hull, Doncaster and London and the town centre is only 5 minutes drive from Junction 36 of the M62 Motorway. There are two large supermarket chains with medium sized stores in the town and various smaller shops.

  • Goole is centrally located for easy travel, you can get to leeds, doncaster, hull, sheffield, york all within 45 mins by car or train. Goole did become run down with the demise of the docks, but has undergone significant regeneration, there is new build housing in abundance, Goole is constantly expanding. There is plenty of cheap houses available to buy, rental properties are hard to come by as there is huge waiting list for local authourity housing. The schools are pretty good, if you are catholic, theres an excellent secodary school towards selby with a free bus. Morrisons have just opened a brand new store, which seems to be triving after a slow start, Asdas are taking over the local nettos stores, there is a large tescos that is always busy, and a small sainsburys. There is a very good sports centre and swimming pool. Goole is very good for cycling, as it is all flat, indeed cycling is a popular form of local transport. I find the people of goole to be friendly and helpful, there is plenty of open countryside close by where pleasant days can be spent walking. If you need hospital care, theres an excellent minor injuries unit, where you are always seen quickly, although if you needed further treatment, you would be transfered to Scunthorpe, I have always managed to get a doctors appointment same day if needed. I'm afraid there is a shortage of NHS dentists, and the ones that exsist have long waiting lists, you can get emergency dental treatment at goole hosptal though. Dont get me wrong, there are a few run down spots, but that is the same in any town you could care to mention
