  • Is it an area on the up? Are the people friendly? It's a coastal village that has remained largely unchanged for many years. Any development is largely confined to demolition/upgrading of single houses/plots at various locations within the village. Expansion is severely restricted by the coastline to the North, three golf courses to the West, and one to the East, and farmland to the South. I've always found the locals to be very friendly and welcoming. If you like your golf, you'll be in heaven. Gullane 1, 2 and 3 to the West, Muirfield to the East, all within 5minutes walk of the village green. Further to the West; Kilspindie, Craigielaw and Longniddry. Go East, and Archerfield is 2 mins' drive, and North Berwick West and The Glen not much beyond that. To the South, Gifford, Haddington. I hope this doesn't come across as dodging the question, but for a written picture of Gullane in just over 300 pages, have a read of "Playing Through", by Curtis Gillespie. From the blurb on the back; "The account of a year he spent with his family in Gullane, Playing Through provides the reader with the rarest of experiences: a story rich with comedy, emotional truths and stunning evocations of a unique landscape. Written with warmth and elegance, it transcends the boundaries of writing on travel and sport to show us the world contained within a village, a place filled to overflowing with life, character, memory and laughter. This is the story of one family's journey, but also a story about the things we all share" Enjoy.
