    I would suggest that you look at the local authorities’ website to see what the crime statistics etc for this area are. You can also look at the local tourist board website for that area which gives you an up to date overview of the area.

    I have dealt with many lots in Alton, and indeed have family in the town. It has always proved very popular. It is a compact market town with all facilities you could need in terms of transport and service provison whilst within 5 minutes your are in the countryside. The property is generally of the Victorian/Edwardian era, and prices are often more competative than say Farnham.There are certainly a lot worse places to live and I would consider it my self if it didn't add to the commute!
