Harrogate appears to have maintained much more stability than the rest of the country with respect to the housing market. In general it is a very pleasant place to live with good transport links to Leeds / York and therefore beyond.
There are very good restaurants and bars catering for locals and visitors alike, and thishelps to maintain an atmosphere of friendly liveliness.
All references in the national press praise Harrogate and it certainly appears to have maintained it's attractiveness to visitors and new residents.
All in all, a nice place to be.

It's not all old fogeys and twin sets these days, there are plenty of new houses and apartments which appeal to the younger buyers / renters, and a very good social atmosphere. There are plenty of really good bars and restaurants, and enough shops to keep most people happy. Leeds and York are just a short train ride / car drive away, and they have plenty of the bigger shops if you need them. I have lived here for over 20 years now, having moved from Sheffield and then Leeds, and think it is a great place to live and bring up a family. Check the league tables to see how good the schools are, and look at the low crime figures too. It's true that property isn't cheap, but it holds its value very strongly - even in a downturn - and you get plenty back when you finally sell to move somewhere else.

We would suggest that you get in touch with local estate agents in order to get some background about the area.
You can search for agents using the ‘find agents’ tab on the top of the Zoopla Page.
We hope this helps.
