What's it like to live in Hertford?

Are the people friendly? What are the pros and cons of living here?

    We moved to Hertford from SW London over 18 monthns ago. Hertford is a fantastic place but if you like hustle and bustle, don't move here. It's quite a sleepy town in a way but just big enough for a place to live.. Pro's.. great schools, great pubs bars, wonderful common (Hartham common) an swimming pool, nice character (in most parts), good community feel, young people are on the whole polite and pretty cool!! (i.e not walking around with a staff. bull terrier or causing major fuss), two train links to London, 4 rivers, a castle and history dating back to 11th century.. Con's: It's a bit pricier than Stevenage, Ware, WGC to buy/rent, poor major bus routes(only one cross link to St Albans and Heathrow-what about bloody London?), major road A414 gets very busy during peak hrs, needs a proper hosp (it is after all, the county town) and trains to London take a longer then Stevenage/ WGC. Ware is the neighbouring town and although a very quaint High St, it is seen as Hertford's poor cousin. Stevenage on the other hand has very good value for money with a great rail link to the Smoke but beware: certain areas are priced accordingly. Welwyn Garden City is the same with it's great rail link to London: the west side seen as the affluent, pricey areas with the best schools and the eastern side which has some great areas too but is generally a lot cheaper than the former.
