To find out when a house was built, there are a number of different steps you can try, with varying degrees of accuracy unfortunately. Your first step should always be the Land Registry. They hold details on when ownership of land was transferred, and if the home was sold by the same person who built it, this should give you a good reading as to when it was built.
Next, if this does not give you any joy, is to get in touch with your local council. They will be able to tell you, if the house is a more modern construction, when the first time was that planning permission for building was granted. Again, this will give you a ballpark figure as to what the age of your property is.
If you still have no luck, try talking to the agent and surveyor who were involved in the process when you bought the property. In their surveys that were carried out before the contracts were transferred, they should have noted somewhere what the date was that the property was built on, and this will give you more of an accurate answer to the age of your home.
