In general Ilfracombe is rated as one of the least desirable locations in Devon and has undergone a lot of regeneration work over recent years converting guest houses into flats for example. There is definitely a huge surplus of flats for sale in the town and even some of the ones high above the harbour which appear reasonably priced have taken over a year to sell. Rumours also are often raised about the level of radon gas that appear from place to place in Devon & Cornwall and I would suggest that any survey that you undertake tests for this too. I would suggest that you only buy in the town if it is a long term investment.
