Can you hide purchase price by not registering property?

I recently sold a property, and the sold price has not appeared. The sale price of the property I purchased has shown as the sale has been registered. When I contacted the land registry to ask why the price of the property I sold hasn't shown up yet, they said it hadn’t been registered. Because of this I wonder if a property can stay unregistered in order to hide the price paid. It was an ordinary sale, so there would be no reason why the sold price would not be shared. Thanks in advance for any input.

  • No - you do not have the option of keeping land unregistered. Unregistered land must be registered if it changes ownership or has a mortgage taken out against it. It sounds like your solicitor has been slow with the registration. If you wanted to hide the price of property you should put the property into a company, then buy or sell the company.
