What's it like to live in Herne Hill?
How does it compare to the areas around? What are the local amenities like?

I love Herne Hill. It's a corner of London not many people know and so much the better. Lovely London Plane tree lined streets, wide open spaces and some good cafes and local shops. Not being a parent I can't vouch for schools but I hear there are some good non private ones. Transport is really good for non-tube area: links from Herne Hill station into Victoria and Blackfriars/Farringdon/St Pancras and links into London Bridge from North Dulwich station, with good onward links esp via the Jubilee line. I've recently moved away (out of London - to buy a house rather than a flat) after living there more than a decade but if I ever need to move back for work it will be to Herne Hill.
