What are the local amenities like? What are the pros and cons of living here?

  • I originally lived in Clapham for a few years and looked to buy there, the prices were ridiculous for what you got. After a year of looking and researching I moved to Streatham, excellent value for money. For a time I had to rent my place out but still decided to rent elsewhere in Streatham, I rented a room in the flat I bought in Streatham for a year to a girl who was new to the area. I moved away from the area and decided to rent my whole flat out, I have since moved back to my old flat and bumped into the girl I had rented to, she still lives in the area. Compared to Clapham, Balham & Tooting, Streatham is very quiet, significantly fewer people around with plenty of open space, unlike the other areas I mentioned which feel very claustrophobic in comparison. If you just get off the high road the streets have some great housing, also good green space, Tooting Bec Common, Streatham Common and you must checkout the Rockery. There are your odd weirdos around but hey this is London! Where ever you go you'll find an odd ball. As for the Somali town end don't let that put you off, I walk through there every day, never, ever felt intimidated, just people hanging about talking that's it. I've felt more threatened in parts of Clapham & Brixton than I ever have in Streatham. Been here five years now and I'm glad I made the move. People who say bad things about it don't actually live there.

  • We would suggest that you check out the local Tourism website & check the crime rates for the area. Do some research on the internet – it’s worth calling a few of the agents too to get some advice. Spend some time in the area that you are interested in too – try to get a feel for the place. Good Luck!

  • Hi, We would suggest that you get in touch with local estate agents in order to get some background about the area. You can search for agents using the ‘find agents’ tab on the top of the Zoopla Page. We hope this helps.
