I would use the www.police.uk website to check out the crime rates in the area.

Yes! I have lived here 5 years and have never felt unsafe on the streets at night and neither has my wife. I used to live in w Walthamstow which was MUCH worse! Stick to east of the stadium and Charlton Church Lane, it's more gentrified this way. Some lovely houses and so cheap compared to nearby Greenwich and Blackheath! Jo

We would suggest that you check out the local Tourism website & check the crime rates for the area. Do some research on the internet – it’s worth calling a few of the agents too to get some advice. Spend some time in the area that you are interested in too – try to get a feel for the place. Good Luck!
