Is Deptford an upcoming area?

What's it like to live there? How does it compare to Canada Water? How safe is it? Any particular streets/areas to avoid?

  • Yes. It most definitely is. I'm not sure about comparing it to Canada Water but, I've lived here 17 years and do not have a bad word to say. We have recently got a brand new library, some fancy restaurants, a brand new train station, a poundland and many more constructive improvements are on the way. e.g the old peacocks site is being transformed. Plus two tescos, a KFC and a Mc Donalds. I could go on and on, But the best for me is the market. The traders are so friendly, whether it be fruit or clothes and I have made some good friends over the years. The sense of community is very strong. Almost everybody knows everybody. As I said, 17 years and not a scratch, so pretty safe. If you were going to be really picky (no reason why you shouldn't since you may wish to actually live in the area) I would just stay away from Pepys Estate because there are a few schools there, and it can get pretty crowded because of school kids going home or hanging out with their friends. Other than that, Deptford is great, and I wouldn't be looking to move if it wasn't for the fact that our family is getting bigger and we need more space.
