What's it like to live in Cheam and commute to the City every day?

We're thinking of moving out of central London for more affordable space, but need to be within commuting distance from London Bridge / Waterloo. We're considering a move to Cheam. Is it a good area with an easy commute?

  • Will let you know in a couple of months! We have chosen South Cheam from Wimbledon for the bigger houses and gardems, good primary schools and commute up to Victoria and London Bridge. Hope to be moving in September 2010.

  • I live in North Cheam and have done so since 1991. I have no children, although I am surrounded by good schools e.g. Cheam, infants, Primary and High, also Nonsuch and Sutton High are excellent schools (my friends children have attended). The area does have 'Hopper buses' and excellent transport links into Worcester Park, Kingston, Epsom, Stoneleigh, Ewell, Sutton and London and there is some wonderful property on the Park Farm Estate and surrounding areas e.g. 3,4 & 5 Bedroomed properties with 2 or more bathrooms and most houses have garages. I don't shop in North Cheam because it's too scruffy and I dislike Sutton Town. However, I love Cheam Village, friendly relaxed atmosphere with nice restaurants and a lovely Park e.g. Cheam and Nonsuch. We are 15 mins away (by car) from Kingston, Esher Sandown Park Race course & only 10 mins from Epsom Downs & Wimbledon. South Cheam is much posher, if you can afford anything from £650k. However if you live near the station the roads are full of yellow lines and there are many cut throughs in the backstreets of South Cheam especially Northey Avenue and surrounding areas, so much so that the locals do complain about the traffic (I have a friend who lives on the 'rat run). Cheam Station goes straight to Victoria. However, it you wanted Waterloo link you would be better off living in Stoneleigh or Worcester Park. Sutton serves most of London stations. Another good website to find out local areas is ''.
