What's it like to live in Longniddry?

Is there much greenery in the area? What kind of people live around here?

  • Longniddry is a small village on the 'rail corridor' linking the North Berwick commuter route to Edinburgh Waverley -this makes it extremely attractive for city workers who don't want to live in the city. Much of the expansion to its present size took place in the early 1970s, with large developments by Wimpey and Cruden at the Eastern and Western edges of the village. However, it's unlikley to grow beyond its present size, being landlocked by Longniddry Golf Club and the River Forth to the North, the East Coast main line to the South, the Wemyss estate to the East, and active farmland to the West. It has a Post Office, General Stores, a Community Centre and Library amongst the general amenities, as well as the Golf Club. There are many other golf courses within easy reach - along the coast are Craigielaw and Kilspindie at Aberlady, Gullane 1, 2 and 3, Luffness and Muirfield at Gullane, Archerfield at Dirleton, and East and West courses at North Berwick, with a further selection inland and toward Edinburgh.
