What's it like to live in Prestonpans?

Is it an area on the up? What are the pros and cons of living here?

  • Really lovely. Beautiful coast line, walking areas and near by sandy beaches in Port Seaton. Longniddry, down to Gullane & North Berwick. Peaceful place. Vibrant community & visual arts programmes. Great historical significance with the Battle of Prestonpans and existing historical physical remains such as the Mercat Cross, the Tower, Doocats and ancient walls. 20 minutes from Edinburgh. Great transport links. Well established, working community.

  • The majority of the established housing stock is to the North side of the town, on the banks of the Forth. The High Street runs very close to the seafront, and the majority of the bus services go via the High Street between Edinburgh and the holiday park a couple of miles down the road at Seton Sands. These are very frequent, roughly 10-15 min service throughout most of the day, with a rough 40 min commute into central Edinburgh. There's a lot of new development on the South edge of the town, with developers such as Stewart Milne, Redrow and Barratt currently active. This is farther away from the High Street, but better placed for access to the rail station, from where you can get to Edinburgh Waverley within 15 mins, or head away from Edinburgh toward North Berwick.
