What's it like to live in Musselburgh?
How does it compare to the areas around? What kind of people live around here?

To a certain extent, commuters live in Musselburgh. With its close proximity to the City of Edinburgh (it's essentially a continuation of Edinburgh's Western boundary, and good rail and bus links into the city, make it an ideal choice for those that want to be out of the city, but still close by. There's very little in terms of building activity - the town is quite 'mature' in terms of its housing stock, and anyone looking for a new build from the likes of Redrow, Persimmon, etc will have to look further down the East Lothian coast, in Prestonpans, or further inland to Tranent. Musselburgh has a busy high street, where local retailers mix with national brands such as Boots & Tesco. There's a good selection of sporting facilities, an active harbour, and a well-regarded theatre, which hosts dramatic and musical productions all year round. I've made a start on describing and classifying the housing stock in Musselburgh, and noting the main features of the various neighbourhoods in the web page referenced below. This is 'work in progress', and as at mid-2009 only covers the southern edge of the town, so you may want to bookmark it and check in at intervals.
