Did anywhere in newbiggin flood during the heavy rain in the summer of 2012? if so which areas?

  • Hi sunnyjesslad I'm sure there are people better placed to comment than myself, but from doing a bit of research around the internet I can't see that Newbiggin-by-the-Sea was massively affected by flooding in the summer of 2012. I've checked the Journal Live website and there are no mentions of flooding last year, thankfully. In fact, the town's RNLI recently welcomed a new lifeboat to its boathouse after funds came in the shape of a generous legacy - so it seems like it is fully-prepared in case flooding does strike. I have also logged on to the Environment Agency website to have a look at its flood maps. If you check out the link below you can see the risk of flooding - as you would expect for a coastal location there is quite a lot of blue shading where land meets the sea. From what I can tell, none of this impinges on areas where there is housing. Can anyone else shed any light on flooding last year? I hope that helps, Scott
