Is January a good time to market your home for sale?

Easter always used to be the ideal time but early bird has been catching the worm for the past 2 years! Any comments?

  • An estate agaent told me that they were very busy straight after Christmas, and are vey busy now. For those wantng to move quickly, January is a good time to market property. Like the saying goes, no time like the present.

  • I would certainly say that now is a good time to market a house in the current market. As you said, it has traditionally been the case that Easter and then on towards the summer months has been better, but times are changing. In December, one estate agent said that they expected to see a record number of people checking out properties and looking for a move on Boxing Day, which shows that there is definitely an appetite for moves in the New Year, with people turning their eye to it straight after the festivities at Christmas. More recently, the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) also said that even though there has been no discernible change in the number of properties coming to market, there has been a marked rise in new buyer enquiries throughout December, so I'd suggest that there definitely is scope to sell in January.
