What's it like to live in Potters Bar?

How does it compare to the areas around? What kind of people live around here?

  • Being 100% honest, I would not choose to live here. That is a personal opinion only. I am under the impression it used to be a nice place to live but its not anymore.

  • I live here, no problems - people seem friendly enough (e.g. walking around the local parks most people say hello). There are two high streets, one with the Train station which has your banks and a few restaurants and other bits and bobs and the other has DIY stores and more restaurants. Train service to London is excellent, 15-20 mins and the season ticket is reasonable. Road access is also really good with the M25 on your doorstep or the major A roads heading North. House prices are reasonable considering its close proximity to London and neighbouring Barnet, in fact I would say the feel of the area is similar to High Barnet/New Barnet. There are a couple of high rise office blocks which I personally don't find attractive but the residential roads are pleasant - if you like varieties 1930s housing! It's a decent place to live with good schools and links elsewhere, it isn't as pretty as market town like St Albans, but nor is it as expensive. The area seems to have a variety of professionals, families and the older generation. I rarely see street trash hanging around on my walk to and from the station, always a good sign i think.

  • We would suggest that you check out the local Tourism website & check the crime rates for the area. Do some research on the internet – it’s worth calling a few of the agents too to get some advice. Spend some time in the area that you are interested in too – try to get a feel for the place. Good Luck!

  • Hi, We would suggest that you get in touch with local estate agents in order to get some background about the area. You can search for agents using the ‘find agents’ tab on the top of the Zoopla Page. We hope this helps.
