Railway line next to house?

The house I like is next to a railway line, can't be seen from the house and is down a steep embankment but I'm concerned about noise and resale, advice needed.

  • Some people love the sound of trains and being near a railway track, I know I am one of them, but re-sale will be a little more difficult than without one. The same would go for a motorway being close, although that can be worse. Properties which are either unusual or close to things, 'some' people worry about can be slower to sell. Don't let it put you off if it is your dream property and you don't mind the railway. Just view the property at peak times when there will be more trains running past, and find out if they are high speed trains.

  • Ask the vendors to let you view the house when the train comes past and then you can decide. They will definitely know the times. However, I once visited someone in a house like that, and the noise was like a thunderstorm for a minute, and I said "what's that", and they said "what's what" they were so used to it they 'blocked it out'
