Scarborough is a brilliant place to live. If you are young (I am not)! there is reputedly a lot of nightlife. If you have a young family it is a wonderful place to bring up children. There are none of the problems people face living in a city. We have no rundown areas although there are obviously council estates where they do have some problems. In common with most seaside resorts there are a substantial number of oldies living in the area. On the whole Scarborough is a lovely safe place to live. Crime is low compared to many places (we have a murder about every ten years!!!). The town has recently won business awards for enterprise and we reputedly have the fastest broadband in Europe. Scarborough is not really a multi-cultural place. I feel that the vast majority of people living here are Scarborough born or people who have bought properties here after holidaying at the resort. Traditionally Scarborough has always been popular with Scottish folk and wessies (people from West Yorkshire). Recently I have seen a growth of people from the South who must now know where Scarborough is! Scarborough is A VERY NICE SAFE PLACE TO LIVE!

Compared to inner cities Scarborough is an ok place to live. However the shopping is better in York and Hull. The people are friendlier elsewhere as it's rare to actually meet someone who for generations have lived and worked here. As for nightlife can't say have only seen the rubbish and heard the drunks - the town centre definitely a no-go area after dark. Given a choice I would no longer live here - from a resident whose family have been here at least 200 years!!!!

I lived in Scarborough for around two and a half years. I moved there from York. Massive mistake!!! Although the coastline is beautiful, the rest of Scarborough is appalling! Myself and my partner were both assaulted on separate occasions. Avoid at all costs and if you do have to move there, do not go out at night. And steer clear of the town, Eastfield and Barrowcliffe.

We would suggest that you get in touch with local estate agents in order to get some background about the area. You can search for agents using the ‘find agents’ tab on the top of the Zoopla Page.
We hope this helps.
