What's it like to live in Shrewsbury?

How does it compare to the areas around? Is there much greenery in the area?

  • I've lived in Shrewsbury for the last 7 years and really like the town! It's got loads of historic character and charm and has some wonderful contryside nearby - the Stretton Hills to the South in particular. The main town centre is looped within the River Severn. It has many unique individual shops, as well as the usual outlets of Boots, WHSmith, etc. The big sheds (Comet, B&Q, etc) are located to the North and South of the town, and thankfully don't impinge on the character of the town itself. The Quarry is a lovely park where people go to chill out and also enjoy some live gigs. As well as plenty of shops in town, there is a multi-screen cinema and a theatre. Birmingham is roughly an hour away on the train, but I don't feel the need to go there for shops, amenities, and so on - Shrewsbury seems to have everything I need. I highly recommend Shrewsbury as a lovely place to live :)

  • I would suggest that you look at the local authorities’ website or police.gov to see what the crime statistics etc for this area are. You can also look at the local tourist board website which gives you an up to date overview of the area. I would also visit the area and ask some locals.

  • Shrewsbury is dying slowly. I have lived here for the past 10 years and cannot wait to move. There are council tenants placed on private estates, potentially making it harder for us to sell. I feel sorry for the youngsters who have saved hard and bought a house, only to find it is devalued. There is lots of greenery in the area, usually soggy due to high levels of rainfall. There is little or no work here, lots of menial jobs shop work etc. I wouldn't recommend visiting the town centre late at night as there have been reports of disturbances caused by excessive drinking. On a plus the historic buildings are beautiful and interesting.

  • Hi, We would suggest that you get in touch with local estate agents in order to get some background about the area. You can search for agents using the ‘find agents’ tab on the top of the Zoopla Page. We hope this helps.
