Is there much greenery in the area? Are the people friendly?

  • South Ockendon is an old Council estate which lately has had a lot of new housing put into it. The green spaces are quite vast around the area including green spaces around Aveley and a few parks in South Ockendon. The people are friendly once you get to know them but you have to be outgoing and talk to people otherwise people keep themselves to themselves. Hope this helps just a litte bit late!

  • Ockendon Village. Trains run into London and Southend. Nelson, Wilesman and Cheelson Roads being the most desirable in South Ockendon Village. Hall Lane just off the pretty village green is stunning a public tarmac footpath going through to near by Bulphun, true Essex country side at its best. Brandon Groves is a countrywide development set in the village a well thought modern development. Brandon Groves does not have any social housing. There is substantial open space and green areas with properties obtaining premium prices. This area is covered by catchment not only to Ockendon School but Gaynes in Upminster and some Upminster primary schools. Areas to look for are Brandon Groves Ave facing the largest green, Ash Walk, and Maple Drive. The Flower estate in the centre of Ockendon is a post war prefab development. The other side of South Ockendon is Belhus and Aveley another large area of post war housing with a health centre, large selection of shops and another Tesco. Aveley village has a small Somerfield and victorian cottages. Church view is a delightful cobbled street. Currently there is a large amount re-generation in South Ockendon with new flats and housing being built on old warehousing. South Ockendon is a perfect place to live if you have children or a commute to work Fenchurch Street is 20mins away, the M25 is on the door step along with the A12, A127, A13, and Lakeside shopping centre. Have a look at the village and Brandon Groves.

  • I have been very content living in South Ockendon for the past 15 years but I am going to move because of the awful noise emanating from the "Essex Arena". If that is not bad enough we have sleepless nights on Saturday/Sunday throughout the year when the bored youth congregate in Tesco's car park at Lakeside..

  • Hi, We would suggest that you get in touch with local estate agents in order to get some background about the area. You can search for agents using the ‘find agents’ tab on the top of the Zoopla Page. We hope this helps.

  • I live in Brandon Groves and regularly commute into London. BG is an oasis of calm. It's pretty, quiet and well looked after. A fair chunk of the people who live there work in the city. The other day I went to Spitalfields with my wife. It took 45 minutes door to door! Properties are more expensive than other parts of Ockendon but it is worth the extra money.
