What is South Ockendon like?

My partner and I thinking of moving to South Ockenden (RM15). What is the area like? - Are there a lot of council housing around? - Are there a lot of youths causing trouble? - Is it a safe and nice place to walk around at night? - Are there any plans to refurb the area? Many thanks

    We would suggest that you check out the local Tourism website & check the crime rates for the area. Do some research on the internet – it’s worth calling a few of the agents too to get some advice. Spend some time in the area that you are interested in too – try to get a feel for the place.     I've lived in South Ockendon for 10 years so can answer your questions! Yes there is a lot of council housing. Around the 'high street' (small parade with some pound shops and a market....) it is almost exclusively council housing. I wouldn't walk round that area at night but that is mainly as there is no reason to, there is not a lot of nightlife.... I don't really think that there are a lot of problem youths though, no worse than any other small town. I live in Brandon Groves which is the newish development on the other side of South Road, this is a really nice place to live, loads of green space for kids to play and to walk dogs etc. and quiet roads with very few cars, hence the reason we have been there for 10 years, but the biggest drawback with South Ockendon is that there is no night life. There are a couple of pubs (that I wouldn't really venture into) and some takeaways. On the plus side it is a short drive / bus ride to Lakeside so maybe I'm being overly picky... In short if you're not bothered about not having a decent pub / restaurant within walking distance and you want a decent sized house for reasonable money within easy commute of London then you could do worse than South Ockendon, but I would only recommend buying in Brandon Groves.
