  • Well a couple of years ago I would certainly have answered quite differently, but I have changed my mind. Telford, horrible name and a ruthless and very clever engineer....(Telford that is) ...who removes half an historic Abbey just to put a road through??? well he did....check out where the pulpit is in Shrewsbury ...it's across the other side of the road silly !!!! where any self respecting pulpit should be....well according to T. Telford that is. But engineers and silly names aside, what is Telford, ANSWER...a conglomeration of small towns and villages, many dating back to Domesday, joined by numerous roads that lead to ever breeding roundabouts and islands. We have history, we have the Industrial Revolution and thousands of years of previous habitation. We have a cleaner town than nearly anywhere in England, we have passable schools, we have landscaping, a town park, and a future. We have potential wealth with the fact that we have a council that chases European funding for various projects including development of new industry. We have countryside and a motorway and rail connection that lead us to anywhere in the World. We have fewer re-possessions of property than many towns and cities in the uk.....just try to find a decent repo on the net....not in my backyard I say! We certainly appear to have a quicker response with emergency services despite the fact that we are rural. At numerous doctors surgeries appointments can be obtained on the day....that does not include Charlton medical practice in Oakengates though....we can' be perfect in everything I sigh! We constantly have to fight for proper provision re our hospital where nearby Shrewsbury believe that they have the controlling hand over us....total insanity. We have the Wrekin, (look it up on the net) with it's breathtaking views and gorgeous seasonal changes, we have Ironbridge and it's museums, (World renowned). We have COUNTRYSIDE....places for children to still be children, we can walk forever and still not traverse every path and secret lane. All in all we are not that bad. We have potential and history, but for God's sake...PLEASE...can we have a proper University, a really good theatre, (THE PLACE in Oakengates does not count as decent) and can we have an art gallery. We are being "re-born" like some sad American under psychotherapy!!! We were always here, but we have by "deed-poll" been updated by the acquisition of a new name, which has done nothing but contribute a negative image to us, but it's here to stay...funny that if I wanted to change my name I can do so by choosing one for myself, but if my home is in question then anyone but myself and the other original inhabitants needed to be asked ??????? If you want a relatively peaceful life in beautiful Shropshire, with developing future provisions, a reasonably priced and stable housing market, quirky folk clubs and morris dancers then Telford may be right for you. Many place are far worse! Annette

  • I would suggest that you look at the local authorities’ website or police.gov to see what the crime statistics etc for this area are . You can also look at the local tourist board website for that area which gives you an up to date overview of the area.

  • Hi, We would suggest that you get in touch with local estate agents in order to get some background about the area. You can search for agents using the ‘find agents’ tab on the top of the Zoopla Page. We hope this helps.
