    I would suggest that you look at the local authorities’ website to see what the crime statistics etc for this area are, this will also give you a guide to house prices and movement of the market within the area. You can also look at the local tourist board website which gives you an up to date overview of the area.

    Newport is a great place to live, like any other place on the planet it has good and not so good, Newport is a great base, there are wonderful places to see in just a 50 mile radius, the city itself is undergoing a major revamp and this year Newport hosts the Ryder Cup at the fabulous Celtic Manor, the capital Cardiff is only a 15 minute drive away with great restaurants and bars.
