Can you get a mortgage when self employed?

I would like to get on the housing ladder as I have children and would like to be able to pass something on to them when I am gone. Do mortgage companies lend to self employed?

  • Yes they do provided you have a deposit and can prove your income, self certificate mortgages which most self employed people got are no longer available, however as long as you can prove your income, have accounts and have been self employed for a while with proven history and no adverse credit you should be fine.

  • As long as you can prove that you can meet the repayments, then yes. Owning your own home should be something everyone should aspire to.

  • Yes as long as a stable income, proven history and accounts can prove you can meet the repayments. It is probably slightly more difficult these days but far from impossible.
