Land Registry should be able to confirm who is responsible for the fence.

When you purchased your house you should have been given a copy of the title plan and deeds. These documents should state who is responsible for the boundaries. If you haven't got copies then ask the solicitor that acted for you to dig them out.

Agree with both answers above. Land Registry should be able to assist you.

You can download yours and your neighbour’s deeds online at the 'Land Registry' for £4 a set. Not free, but worth the money if it clears up any confusion.
