Will removing our chimney breast add value or saleability?

We have an end of terrace house, three up three down; the middle room upstairs is a bedroom leading onto a bathroom at the back. If we take out the party wall chimney breast on that floor, we have room to put up a stud wall, and make the bathroom accessible without going through the bedroom. Is it worth doing?

  • If this is a party wall you need to consult both a surveyor and your neighbour. The chimney is probably supporting the wall. If the work is not done correctly and with all approvals it will certaiinly not add value!
