Will adding a loft coversion to a three storey house devalue the property?

Currently live in a three storey, new property and are ready to remodel. We want to add a loft conversion with en suite to the property. This would mean that the house would then become a four storey house. Will this devalue the property?

  • This would not devalue a house, Make sure you stay within budget and ask a couple of estate agents what the value is now and potentially after the works are done to make sure its the right decision.

  • It shouldn't do as you are adding to the accomadation. owever make sure the conversion is done correctly with full planning and building regulations. A chat with a couple local agents would be useful- make sure the costs do not exceed the maximum ceiling price in the area and if is the case I can see no problem.

  • Sounds like an interesting project and one that will certainly add value providing you are mindful of budget. Don't forget that location also plays a part with regard to the level of value.

  • Extra space equals extra cash. As others have said, stick to a budget and do a good job and it will add value.

  • New properties mostly have the roof made off site and just fitted, you did not say if it is a semi or a detached house, if the new roof trusses are factory made you will find it will cost a lot more than you may think, if you do go though with it will add value, but keep an eye on the cost
