  • Hi rncleary, There is no doubt that solar panels do offer some great benefits, you can have cheaper electricity in your home and even sell some of that electricity back onto the grid. So, you can save money and potentially make money. The look of the solar panels though, can have an adverse affect on the value of the property or it’s saleability. Of course, not everybody likes the look of them particularly if they’re on the front of the house. Hope that helps. Regards, Jonathan Rolande :-)

  • Solar panels do not add value. The moment I see a picture showing solar panels (even on the house next door) I don't bother to even consider it.

  • OK, solar panels are a bit like wind turbines - you either love them or hate them - but remember, they're not always facing the road. I think we'll find buyers who want to pay a price which recognises the value our solar panels offer them. Would you be tempted by £2,000 pa tax free (excluding electricity savings) index-linked for the next 20 years? On a property valued at maybe £350K in the south-east? I think that would be rather helpful towards the mortgage!
