Is it ok to put carpet onto wood floors?

When moving to a different property which has wooden floors is it ok to put carpet onto them or take up wood floor first?

  • Hi dmott01btinternetcom, There are a number of different thoughts about this one, but generally, you can put carpet over a hardwood floor if you want to. Many people opt to use large rugs as an alternative though, because if the job is not done right, the carpet will move and become ruffled as people walk over it. One option you will have is to put down underlay before the carpet goes on the floor. This is a rubber layer that will basically stop the carpet from moving as much on the floor, however, there can still be some movement when using this. The other option you will have will be to use a tack strip around the edge that essentially holds the carpet in place. The biggest problem with this choice is that if anyone ever wants to go back to using the hardwood floors, the tack strips can leave damage that is noticeable. Many thanks, Scott
