Home Improvements Wine Cellar

Does a wine cellar add value to a home and if so how much in £ or %. Also does the capacity of the cellar also effect this. My cellar will be 2 meters by 3 meters with a 2 meter ceiling located under ground

  • I doubt it will add any significant value. If you want to justify the expense of a wine cellar then that needs to be on the basis that it is something you desire and will enjoy. Is it the sort of large property for which a wine cellar may be expected? Or is it an unusual feature for an otherwise modest property? A future buyer who likes wine may find it appealing; for most it will just be 6m² that could be put to better use. It may add to the amenity and appeal of a property but is unlikely to add anything to the price anyone is willing to pay.

  • Hello Darcy, I would imagine it would but it´s not a very tangible addition to quantify (compared to, say, a back extension or roof conversion). How much are you looking to spend on it?

  • It's quite a niche addition to a property, so may not appeal to the general market. If you are looking to spend on home improvements then a conservatory, new kitchen etc will help increase the value more than a wine cellar. But hopefully you will find value from your wine cellar in none-monetary ways. Good luck.

  • I would agree with quip - if it´s a nice feature to the rest of the property it may tip the balance to get a better price but I would recommend keeping your expectations low.
