  • Hi, It's not necessarily a case of having an affect on the value of the property. You have got to be very mindful and careful when having solar panels installed as some companies will have a lease on the solar panels for 25 years and as they have a charge on your property it is extremely difficult to sell your property with its lease in place. We hope this helps.

  • Hi ojohn1, This is one of these cases where the jury is still out on the added value it can bring. It is not like adding an extra room or an extension in that it is a relatively new practice, and a general consensus on the benefits has yet to be in evidence. However, there are a number of things to consider. For example, they can be a positive to some buyers because of the potential for savings on their bills for a number of years, but there are others who will see the aesthetic damage to a house as being more prominent than the chance they might lower their outgoings. It's still really a matter of opinion. Other things to consider include how long you plan staying in your current home. Solar PV has a lifespan of 25 years, so if you are going to wait a long time before selling, the panels may be on their way out, significantly reducing their value for any potential buyer. Many thanks, Scott

  • I would also look at the time ti would take to get return on them minus the sale cost its normally around 25-50 years.
