Is the UK property market going to begin recovery this year?

Will there be price rises and some recovery? Thank you.

  • You never know for sure...anything can happen but it looks promising. Transactions up 5% last year, the share market doing well and the 1st signs of recovery... developers are looking to buy. Don't trust anyone who says they know for sure one way or the other.

  • Hi Jammysid, As Jonathan says, this is an issue that no one can ever give you a definitive answer to, because there economic factors and any number of other aspects that can affect how well the market will perform as a whole. However, at the moment, the general feeling is that there are reasons to be positive ahead of the rest of 2013. Rics reported that December had seen a rise in property enquiries, particularly from new buyers in the market, while latest CML data has shown that there are now more mortgages being afforded to buyers around the country. It is also generally believed that the Funding for Lending scheme should have a decent effect this year, meaning even more mortgages becoming available, and a greater level of activity will likely be followed by a rise in prices throughout the year. So while it is not possible to tell you for sure if this year will be good, it is certainly a possibility at this stage. Thanks, Scott

  • I think there will be some slow progress this year, and perhaps by 2014 the market will pick up across the country. There is always going to be that North South divide, but overall, another 12 months could see a decent start to the market recovering. I think we will be looking at a few more years after that to see a full recovery.
