Are you looking to rent or buy? The general rule of thumb is the further out of London you are the cheaper the price, and generally speaking the further north you go it is also cheaper, therefore I would recommend searching north of London. There will be small pockets where prices are more expensive than others.

You might be better setting a budget and then using property portals to see what you get for your money then narrow the search by deciding on house style and type and what areas you prefer, you will find this a quick way of narrowing the search area to a manageable one.

Have a look on Rightmove or Zoopla at house prices in certain Postcodes. You can filter your search to state how many bedrooms, houses or flats etc.
