How much difference can a garage make to the value of a property?

I live in Murray Avenue, Northampton and I am curious as to the wide variation in property prices in my street, after all many of the terrace properties are virtually identical in architecture? I am also wondering what difference a boarded loft space for extra storage makes in terms of value to a properties sale price as a percentage increase, (if any) on an identical property without this addition?

  • A garage can add value, as storage space is essential for most people. Some buyers will only buy a property with a garage to park their car in and keep it safe. It can add value, or at least improve saleability. A boarded loft will also appeal to those with a lot of stuff, but if it is only for storage, it won't add a great deal of value.

  • Hi, The difference for a adding a garage in a nutshell will be roughly the same amount that it was built for and on average would be around £10,000 however it would also depend on how much of your garden etc that you would take up. We hope this helps.
