Why can't I find property prices sold before 1995

It would be very helpful if I could find the actual prices of properties sold in 1991, in my quest to try and get my council tax re banded, but have been informed this information is not available even under the 'Freedom of Information Act'. Is this correct?

  • Unfortunately you are correct, it is not in the public realm. Why, I don't know.

  • Thank you, lovejoy1 and gareth1 for replying. I have contacted the Land Registry and they say that 'The Land Registry did not record the price paid for properties sold in 1991, therefore we do not have any information on this'. I suppose the only way I can find the info. would be to trawl through the local papers, for that period, at my local library on microfilm!

  • I have sold houses in the Stockport Area, Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall and surrounds since the early 1990's! Is there a post code for the property you wish to share and I would be happy to try and find the info for you! You can email me
